Pilates
Pilates is a mind-body exercise that requires core stability, strength, and flexibility. Paying special attention to muscle control, posture, and breathing rhythm.
. Working on mobility, stability and flexibility will only improve muscle health, reduce risk of injury and encourage a better mind-body connection in your movement pathways.

It is a form of strength training, but it doesn't look or feel like traditional weightlifting. Pilates focuses more on improving muscle tone and not muscle size, but the result is similar: greater stability and muscular endurance, making movement more efficient.

The repertoire of approximately 50 exercises has been developed to increase muscle strength and tone, particularly of your abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and buttocks – the group of muscles well known as the ‘core’.
Each exercise flows from the "five essentials": breath, cervical alignment, rib and scapular stabilisation, pelvic mobility, and utilisation of the transverses abdominal muscle.

What is Clinical Pilates & who will benefit?

At B&A Physiotherapy we offer Mat Based - Clinical Pilates.
Clinical pilates classes are geared towards patients that are moving into exercising and gaining confidence post injury.
It is especially valuable to anyone that experiences chronic neck or back pain - having a clinical therapist teach and promote movement acuity is most noteworthy ensuring you gain maximum benefit with little risk.
The classes are small (8-10 people) and are designed to include mobility, stability and conditioning to ensure the rehabilitation element is met.
